EASY SEW RUFFLED HEADBANDS

Spring is here!

Enjoy this little freebee sewing project to make sweet ruffled headbands.

Make many to match your favorite wardrobe pieces.

These are also great for party favors and gifting.

Supplies needed are:

lightweight cotton fabric

1/8″ elastic, use 20″ for a headband.

Optional sewing aid: tunnel foot

Sewing machine settings: Max zig zag width and length

Check out the photo guide below and follow the step by step instructions.

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Rip a 30″ long strip of fabric the width you desire… A 1.5″ wide strip will make a ruffle headband.

Trim edges with pinking sheers. Taper ends as shown for a headband.

Measure around head to decide elastic length. I used 20″. Knot ends.

2)Place elastic at center of fabric band. Start stitching, make sure not to stitch elastic.

3)Zig zag stitch until you reach the knot. Keep needle inserted in fabric and presser foot down, pull elastic to gather ruffle and extend elastic.

4)Continue to zig zag elastic in place up to new knot location. Repeat stitching and pulling elastic until you reach the end of the fabric strip.

5)Tie ends of elastic together

6)Fluff and wear!

These ruffle bands are so easy you can sew lots!

Make some to decorate flower pots and gifts.

Enjoy! Elaine

START SEWING with easy projects

The original mission of this site was to introduce sewing to anyone who may have toyed with the idea of learning to sew but hasn’t found the motivation to start.

A motivation for learning a new hobby is that one must be AMUSED. So, it’s gotta be FUN … at least a large percentage of the time.

Fun is different for everyone. Like a child, I personally have a very short-term FUN-to-Frustration/ Satisfaction ratio. Meaning, I need to have some immediate results with a low learning curve! Read on for just that!

These are some free one piece patterns to get a taste for sewing.

So quick and easy!

Click photos for patterns and instructions.

For an easy project with a small learning curve for beginners, check out 2 piece animals by Elaine Heigl Designs for Simplicity. These sew up super fast! Make many!

Simplicity 8044 are the original 2 piece animal sets by Elaine Heigl Designs. Make 2 piece animal babies with 8716…so lovable! 2 piece animals can be made from plush, minky, cotton, knit or fleece. Fleece is the very easiest fabric to sew.

If you think sewing might be fun…. you can start sewing, with a few tools, supplies, some tutorials and practice. No sewing machine? An inexpensive one (under $100!) will do! One can be purchased online or at a super store.

Sew! …….give it a whirl!
