Spring is here!

Enjoy this little freebee sewing project to make sweet ruffled headbands.

Make many to match your favorite wardrobe pieces.

These are also great for party favors and gifting.

Supplies needed are:

lightweight cotton fabric

1/8″ elastic, use 20″ for a headband.

Optional sewing aid: tunnel foot

Sewing machine settings: Max zig zag width and length

Check out the photo guide below and follow the step by step instructions.

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Rip a 30″ long strip of fabric the width you desire… A 1.5″ wide strip will make a ruffle headband.

Trim edges with pinking sheers. Taper ends as shown for a headband.

Measure around head to decide elastic length. I used 20″. Knot ends.

2)Place elastic at center of fabric band. Start stitching, make sure not to stitch elastic.

3)Zig zag stitch until you reach the knot. Keep needle inserted in fabric and presser foot down, pull elastic to gather ruffle and extend elastic.

4)Continue to zig zag elastic in place up to new knot location. Repeat stitching and pulling elastic until you reach the end of the fabric strip.

5)Tie ends of elastic together

6)Fluff and wear!

These ruffle bands are so easy you can sew lots!

Make some to decorate flower pots and gifts.

Enjoy! Elaine
