If you have so many crafting and sewing project ideas that it overwhelms you, I hear you! Here is a process that can help control the madness.
First of all It’s great to have tons of ideas. Jot, doodle or sketch each and every one! Save inspirational tear sheets and photos. Relish the flow, but don’t get overwhelmed by collecting all these musings either.
A strategy for those ongoing random ideas is: consider it all! An ongoing flow of tiny to big thoughts can first get tossed into a bin. Every so often sift through that bin. What seems of value moves into the “good idea dump”. Other ideas that don’t quite rate eventually get the toss. Anything that seems to have the potential to become a fully blown concept may have the honor of being filed or put into a special notebook. The idea flow can be a constant and organic process. An idea from decades of sitting in a file or bin may one day become a seed for a big successful project!
An actual mission such as an assignment or a blog post is sure motivation to sift through collected ideas and references for something worthwhile. At this stage, it can be helpful to build a style board to brainstorm and grow that concept.
There are those funky days (and sometimes many in a row!) that ideas are just not happening. That’s when I find it best to clean, organize and move furniture around or go to an antique mall….for some reason that gets the brain percolating once again!
Now to make time to start your project!
How do you create and mull ideas? Do you have a system or tips on how to keep ideas organized and brewing?
