Try out sewing with a one seam project

Does trying out a new skill such as sewing ever cross your mind, but then the “perfectionist” in you halts any attempt at trying? Hey, less than perfect results are ok! Some imperfection can be accepted as folk art, a current trend. If the discomfort of a learning curve makes you want to whine, acknowledge that and move forward anyway… Enjoy the process of learning something new!

On this site there are many “one seam” projects for someone to try their hand at using a sewing machine:

Repurpose a sweater to a slouch hat

Party banners

Little pillow shapes

If you want to refine your skills and results, sometimes a gentle redo may be all that is needed. A seam ripper can be your best friend!

Sometimes hand basting prior to machine stitching can give more control and better results than just pinning.

Appreciate your machine! Make sure it’s threaded properly. Changing a needle type or presser foot can often improve the outcome.

Taking classes and communicating with sewing enthusiests will always help fine tune your skills. The sewing community will welcome you!

Remember: practice, practice, in time you will be perfect!
