Repurpose a sweater into a slouch hat

Have you ever found a so-so fashion piece made up of a fabulous fabric? A bulky cable knit or a cashmere sweater can be a bargain at a super sale rack, consignment or thrift store, but maybe the style or fit is not for you. So why not think to repurpose and make a sassy up-to-the-moment slouch hat?

Follow the easy directions below to make a slouch hat.

Measure the circumference of your head.

Mark head circumferance measurement plus 1″  along sweater hem. Measure and mark 15″ parallel to hem.

 

Ready to sew

Cut out and ready to sew.

 

With right sides together, machine stitch the center back seam. Trim and zig zag finish the seam allowance.

Hand stitch a running stitch 1/2" from the top raw edge of the hat.

Pull and secure the thread to close the opening.

Turn the hat right side out. Done!

For additional personality, add some funky embroidery details and some vintage buttons.
